KDU College Kicks Off Community Project

PENANG, 7th February, 2009 – KDU College Penang Campus have made a stand to help the needy even during the times of economy downturn. ‘KDU Community Service Project’ idea came about from Ms Joey Phuah, Head of Student Services. “We believe that we need to help in any way that we can especially at times like now with uncertainty economy”, she stated. The whole year project starts today until December where the KDU community will visit different homes monthly.

The KDU Community Project kicks off with a visit to Liberty Nursing Homes, a home managed by Mr Sim Choon Liang and his wife for the past 17 years. Mr Sim who prefers to be called as Uncle Sim embraced the visit with open arms as the KDU family members sing, dance and entertain the home’s 20 occupants. Money collected by the college’s community was given out as ‘Ang Pau’, while other necessities like rice, biscuits, adult diapers and more send smiles throughout the home.

“I believe that coming here show the students and all of us who came here something to think about, an insight to be in other’s shoes and see things from their perspectives”, stated Ms Joey Phuah.

After the half day visit to the old folks’ home, the KDU committee members looked forward to their next visit there as well as the next destination, a visit to an orphanage; the upcoming destination for the project in the coming 2 weeks. The KDU College community project welcomes any donations and sponsors for the stand its taking. KDU College also has another upcoming project, targeting for the environment, the ‘Green Environmental Project’, which will be launched on this 27th February in KDU College itself.
